Low-Sugar Churros with Pyure Hazelnut Nutella-like spread

Low-Sugar Churros

There’s something irresistible about warm, freshly made churros—crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, and coated in sweet cinnamon goodness.

Traditionally enjoyed as a decadent treat, churros are known for their rich sweetness, but this version offers a lighter twist. By using sugar-free sweetener and a low-sugar Hazelnut Spread, you can enjoy all the classic flavor and satisfying crunch without the sugar overload. Perfect for dessert, weekend brunch, or a cozy snack with coffee, these churros prove you don’t have to sacrifice taste to make a smarter, lower-sugar choice.

Ingredients

Churros

  • 1 cup water

  • 2 tbsp coconut oil or vegan butter

  • 1 tbsp Pyure Plant-Based Sweetener

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Cinnamon Sugar

For cooking

  • Neutral oil spray (avocado or coconut)

For dipping

Instructions

  1. Make the dough

In a saucepan, bring water, coconut oil, sugar, and salt to a boil.

Lower heat, add flour, and stir vigorously until a smooth dough forms and pulls away from the pan.

Remove from heat and mix in vanilla. Let cool 5 minutes.

  2. Pipe the hearts

Transfer dough to a piping bag with a star tip.

Pipe heart shapes onto small parchment squares (this makes transferring way easier).

  3. Air fry

Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C).

    Lightly spray churros with oil.

Air fry for 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crisp.

  4. Coat

While warm, toss churros in cinnamon sugar until fully coated.

Dip & enjoy

Serve warm with Pure hazelnut spread on the side (or drizzle it right on top if you’re feeling extra).
